1910

Nurturing Creativity -The Early Years of a Budding Artist

Born on September 10th in Doddaballapura, a town about 40 kilometers from Bangalore, to parents Rumale Karibasappa and Gouramma.

1926

At 16, he showed artistic talent, drawing Jesus Christ.

1929-1931

Encouraged by his brother in 1929, he joined Kalamandir, studying under A.N. Subba Rao, completing "Higher Exams in Art." Later, he attended Chamarajendra Technical Institute (CTI) in Mysore, receiving training in oil painting and experimenting with watercolours.

1930 to 1947

A Youth's Dedication to Freedom Struggle -Service before Art

Drawn by Mahatma Gandhi's call to join the freedom struggle, as a youth. He sacrificed his art career and fully immersed himself in the freedom struggle.

1934

Meets Mahatma Gandhi at Nandi Hills, near Bangalore.

1935

He founded the Negus Youth League and extended a warm welcome to Sardar Patel.
Works on a set of watercolors for three years and submits 18 of the works for one of the Dasara Annual exhibitions.
Awarded a prize for his painting Nenapu (Memory) in Calcutta Fine Art Exhibition.

1938

Participates in the flag hoisting incident at Vidurashwatha, known as the Jallianwalabagh tragedy of South India.

1940

Political prisoner for nine months in Bijapur and Visapur, near Ahmadnagar (co-prisoner with Jawaharlal Nehru). After release, undergoes rigorous imprisonment at the Bangalore Central Jail and Byramangala Camp Jail.

1946

Organiser of the Fine Arts exhibitions during the Mysore Congress Sessions. Publication of Namma Lalitha Kalavidaru (Our Fine Artists).

1948 to 1960

Foundations of Progress -Nation Building & Creative Activities

Organiser, Congress Seva Dala Organising Secretary, Bharat Seva Dala, Mysore State.

Nominated Member of Mysore State Legislative Council representing social service and painting. Seeks active engagement of the Government in building an arts college and artist colony.

Editor, Thayinadu Kannada daily Co-leader to early Chief Ministers and political leadership of Mysore State.

1960

Organizes an artists’ meeting, including the well known K. C. S. Paniker.

The Mysore Chitrakala Parishat takes shape in the Seva Dala office in Nehru Circle.*

1962 to 88

Embracing Art Full Time -A Profound Dive into Creativity

Begins painting full time. Holds several one-person shows, followed by several others.

1967-1988

Award

  • The Mysore Dasara Award
  • The State Lalitakala Academy award
  • The state government conferred the Rajyothsava award
  • Distinguished Citizen of Bangalore award (posthumous)

1938

Spiritual Awakening - A Life-Altering Experience

Receives darshan from his first guru, Shreeman Tapaswiji Maharaj, and serves him from 1938 to 1955.

1951

Together with Shreeman Tapaswiji Maharaj, Shri Rumale has the privilege of meeting Sri Sri Sri Shivabalayogi Maharaj and serves Him till 1988.

1969 &1981

Undergoes the rigorous Amlapalasha Kayakalpa treatment, a spiritual Ayurvedic rejuvenation, and experiences a rejuvenation effect of at least 10 years.

1973

Upon Shri Shivabalayogi Maharaj's Command," he establishes the Rumale Art House with a personal loan.

1988

Departure -A Life of Art and Service

On February 5, he tragically lost his life in an accident while returning home from Lalbagh.
